19 Citizens of Malawi Fined For Immigration Offences

Nineteen Malawian nationals who were bussed to South Africa and stopped in Harare for breaking immigration restrictions in Zimbabwe have each been fined US$50. The Sunday Mail claims that if Steven Chipapi and his friends don’t pay the fines, they would be imprisoned for ten days.

When the people appeared before Harare magistrate Caroline Matanga, they entered a guilty plea to the allegation of entering Zimbabwe without authorization.

Mandirasa Chigumira, the prosecutor, stated that on April 23, the Virtue Trade petrol station in Southlea Park, Harare, provided information on illegal migrants to the police. Law enforcement located the 19 people on a JKN Logistics bus (AGL1978) after conducting an investigation, and they asked to see their travel documentation.

In addition, twenty-three more immigrants from Malawi who live in Mbare are scheduled to appear before the Harare Magistrates Court on comparable accusations.

In another story,On Monday, April 22, thirty Malawians were taken into police custody in Mbare, Harare, purportedly for not having the proper paperwork to prove their rightful residency in the nation.

The individuals were taken to the Harare Central police station for more investigation, as reported by The Herald.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, a spokesman for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), confirmed the arrests and said that thirty foreign people were apprehended as a result of the operation in Mbare. He said that all the incident’s information would be made public today...read in full
