70 000 to Attend Uhuru Celebrations

With over 70,000 people expected to attend the Independence Day celebrations at Murambinda Town Centre in Buhera, Mangaland is expected to have the largest-ever celebrations.

This week, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Advocate Misheck Mugadza and Treasurer General of Zanu PF, Cde Patrick Chinamasa, took the various organising committees on a tour of the designated locations.

Murambinda The Children’s Party is scheduled for April 17 at A Primary School, while the major Independence Day celebration, which is anticipated to draw a sizable crowd, will take place at Murambinda B High School.

With labourers and yellow equipment already on the ground from the City of Mutare and other government ministries, work to tidy up the venue has begun. Grading is underway and work is being done on a new football pitch. In preparation for the main event, a fresh turf will be laid out beginning next week.

Cde Chinamasa praised the government and President Mnangagwa for selecting Manicaland to host the country’s Independence Day celebrations this year.

“We are honoured to have been given the chance to organise and conduct this year’s national Independence Day festivities as Manicaland. We promise to deliver the celebration that’s above and beyond expectations. With these festivities, we hope to make a lasting mark on the province’s capacity for planning. Our goal is to transform Murambinda and Buhera overall through the construction of infrastructure. According to Cde Chinamasa, the feeder roads leading to Murambinda will be maintained, and the hosting schools will undergo extensive renovations.

According to Minister Mugadza, the location was picked for its convenience.

“Murambinda is accessible from all directions and is centrally located. We’ve gotten started right away. There are eighteen organising committees in place, and they are hard at work already. We want to make sure that, in addition to Harare, the customary location, we have the largest celebrations ever. He stated, “We have mobilised the required staff and supplies to guarantee that the location will be prepared well in advance of the occasion.

In order to receive the Independence torch, Minister Mugadza invited war veterans who had set up camp at Dzapasi Assembly Point between 1979 and 1980 during the liberation war ceasefire to gather there.

“It seemed appropriate to have the celebrations in this neighbourhood because Buchera made significant contributions to the independence war.

“Before April 18, the venue will receive the Independence Day flame.” The route will go via Dzapasi Assembly Point and The Butcher in Rusape before arriving at Murambinda B High School. We are requesting that everyone who served in the military and was present at Dzapasi Assembly Point gather there in order to accept the Independence torch. This is a unique method to pay them tribute. Minister Mugadza stated, “We will always be appreciative of the sacrifices they made to free this nation.

Cde Tawanda Mukodza, the provincial chairman of Zanu PF Manicaland, announced that the province is organising 73 000 participants to join in the Independence Day festivities.

We at Manicaland are excited to organise 73,00 individuals to join in the Independence Day festivities. We anticipate that Buhera, the host district, will provide forty thousand people; Makoni, Zimunya/Marange, Mutasa, and Mutare Urban, two thousand each; Nyanga, one thousand; Chipinge, four thousand; and Chimanimani, ten thousand. We are pleading for assistance, particularly with transport so that people can get to the event. We will be closely adhering to all health protocols and are taking every precaution in light of the cholera outbreak that swept through the district earlier this year. We do not want this significant occasion to become a super spreader of cholera,” he stated.

The legislator from Buhera North, Cde Phillip Guyo, who is also the hosting MP, expressed his gratitude for the honour of hosting this significant national occasion.

“First of all, I would want to express my gratitude to the people of Buhera North for their overwhelming support of President Mnangagwa in the harmonised elections held on August 23, 2023, demonstrating their faith in his ability to lead. We, the Buhera North people, promise not to let you down. Thousands of us will turn out to celebrate our independence.

Cde Guyo remarked, “We also beg those who will be working on the venues to hire locals so that they too can benefit from this national programme.”

MPs for Buhera South and Buhera West, Cde Ngoni Mudekunye and Tafadzwa Mugwadi, as well as members of the Manicaland provincial organising committee and the ruling Zanu PF leadership, were also present at the ceremony.
