An employee of the Gweru City Council Kizito Wedzerai was given a jail sentence for purposeful property damage after he threw a spike during a parking dispute, deflating a resident’s tire.
Gweru City Council has instituted a unique clamping program from 6 pm to 7 am in response to issues with revenue collection.
Local citizen Mr. Elias Mataga of Mkoba informed the police that his Toyota Wish car’s tire was deflated after council employee Kizito Wedzerai threw a spike under it.

Despite Kizito’s plea of innocence, Ms. Ndlovu ruled him guilty and gave him an eight-month prison sentence. But in exchange for good behavior, he will complete 245 hours of community service and have his sentence postponed for seven months. In addition, Kizito was given a one-month suspension unless he paid Mr. Mataga US$45 to repair the tire.
According to the charges against him, Kizito noticed the complainant parking his Toyota Wish at around 6:30 in the morning when he was on patrol through the CBD of Gweru.
According to what the court heard, Kizito tossed a spike beneath the car as it drove off, deflating the right rear tire, as the complainant’s daughter got out and returned from a closed food shop. The complainant was charged by Kizito with parking illegally in the CBD.
