Harare, Zimbabwe | ALPHA Media Holdings (AMH) senior journalist Blessed Mhlanga who was detained Monday after handing himself over to the authorities has arrived at court where is set to appear this morning, ZiMetro News can report.
Mhlanga popularly known as Dhara B handed himself to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Law and Order Section at Harare Central Police Station.
This followed police statement that Mhlanga was a person of interest for allegedly distributing content deemed harmful to the State in contravention of section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act after HStv broadcast Zanu PF central committee member Blessed “Bombshell” Geza who called for President Mnangagwa to stand down.
Mhlanga has a decorated career where he has respected multiplicity of voices and has even covered President Mnangagwa when he went into a two week long exile before his return to take over the levers of power as he vowed in a statement.
Prominent figures were present to show solidarity, with Job Sikhala arriving alongside Jacob Ngarivhume to support Blessed Mhlanga. Meanwhile, Obert Masaraure and ZINASU stood firmly by Mhlanga’s side, emphasizing that the fight for justice and press freedom is a collective struggle that unites us all.
