As former banker Andy Hodges continues his attacks and rants against corporate entities, disturbing details about his drug addiction and impaired decision-making have come to light.
Concerned neighbors have come forward with troubling claims that Hodges kept his two sons out of formal schooling and had his partner, a known drug user, “home-school” them.
The neighbors, who lived near Hodges in Avondale between 2022 and 2023, reported that the boys, now aged five and nine, were essentially confined at home and neglected while their parents frequently visited drug dens in the Avenues.
The nine-year-old only started Grade Two in 2025, placing him two full years behind his peers. His mother recently posted a social media video of his boarding school in Shamva, prompting parents at the school to question how a nine-year-old was only now being enrolled in Grade Two.
“I saw what Andy was posting on social media about companies like Econet and Zimpapers and decided to expose his hypocrisy,” said one neighbor.
“He is busy criticizing others, yet he is a drug addict who poses a danger to his two boys. He urgently needs psychological help because, at this rate, he could harm himself and others with his reckless behavior. Those children are remarkably strong for their age. What they have endured is nothing short of shocking.
“Money was spent on drugs instead of education, proper food, and clothing for the children. He claimed their mother was home-schooling them, but everyone in the neighborhood knew she would disappear for days at a drug den after getting paid, only returning home once the money ran out.”
Another neighbor recounted how the children were exposed to constant fights whenever their parents were high on drugs.
“Hodges was frequently beaten up by his wife, especially after their usual drug binges,” said the neighbor.
“At first, he was embarrassed to admit it. He would blame his swollen eye or lip on falling down the stairs or some other excuse. But over time, he started opening up about the fights, and drugs were always at the center of them.”
Hodges was dismissed from Zimpapers last year.
The ex-banker had been hired by Zimpapers after being deported from Asia on drug trafficking and abuse charges, leaving him destitute.
In 2020, he and his partner allegedly supplied hard drugs to a recovering addict, leading to her death at their rented Avondale apartment. The couple then drove around Harare with the corpse in the backseat after the woman’s angry relatives refused to intervene. The relatives blamed Hodges’ partner, Tinopona Katsande, for taking the woman, Rebecca Chinyerere, from her home and exposing her to drugs.
They were further enraged when the couple failed to report the death to the police, as required by law.
A relative told H-Metro in 2020 that Rebecca had overdosed on cocaine at Hodges’ apartment.
“Rebecca was a drug addict, but she had been clean until recently when she returned from Chakari, where she had been staying,” the relative said in the H-Metro report.
The relative claimed Rebecca had stayed at the Avondale apartment for a week before being “dumped” after falling ill.
She was recovering at home when the Avondale group picked her up again. That was the last time her loved ones saw her alive. Rebecca left behind two children, aged 13 and 3.
Katsande denied the allegations, and the case seemingly “died a natural death” under suspicious circumstances.
