Blessing Moyo has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after stealing US$5 from a motorist and causing a car accident.

Blessing Moyo appeared before Harare Magistrate Letwin Rwodzi, facing two counts of armed robbery. Initially, he received a 20-year sentence with six years suspended conditionally, resulting in an effective 14-year jail term.

At Manyame River bridge, Moyo’s accomplice, seated in the front, brandished a pistol, demanding valuables from Mr. Kamungeremu, who surrendered his wallet containing US$5.

Ordered to drive towards Kabrit Zimbabwe National Army main camp, Mr. Kamungeremu veered into oncoming traffic in a bid to escape. This maneuver led to a collision with another vehicle.

Following the accident, Mr. Kamungeremu sought help, prompting the accomplice to flee, leaving Moyo trapped in the car. Good Samaritan motorists assisted Mr. Kamungeremu in apprehending Moyo and handed him over to the police. During a search, a pellet gun used by the robbers was recovered.
