Blood-Stained Coffin Discovered at Harare Police Officer’s Home, Shocks Family

An eerie discovery was made at the home of a female police officer in New Msasa, Harare, on Sunday morning when an empty coffin, stained with blood, was found in the yard. The unsettling incident was first reported by ZimLive.

Hatfield police confirmed the case in a report sent to the Officer Commanding Chitungwiza Police District.

The officer, Constable Eronia Payesa, 42, who works with Harare’s CBD Traffic unit, and her family were taken aback by the sight of the coffin when they awoke. Dumisani Mahahani, Payesa’s husband, informed the authorities of the bizarre occurrence.

According to police statements, the couple’s 10-year-old son, Tinashe Mahahani, was the last family member to return home around 6:30 PM the previous evening and had accidentally left the gate unlocked.

The shocking discovery was made by Lauren Simango, 34, who noticed the coffin while cleaning the yard. The coffin, measuring 160 cm by 57 cm, had been left just inside the gate. Upon opening the coffin, detectives found blood stains inside.

Members of the specialised CID Forensic Unit were called to investigate the scene.

In other news, Two police officers from Zvishavane tragically lost their lives in a high-speed chase accident a few days ago when their vehicle overturned on Bulawayo Road, just past the Zvishavane turnoff near Mberengwa.

The accident, which has left the local community in shock, occurred while the officers were engaged in a high-speed pursuit, though the exact reasons for the chase remain unknown. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the police vehicle lose control before veering off the road and overturning. Both officers were declared dead at the scene.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has not yet provided full details regarding the circumstances surrounding the chase. The public is still awaiting an official statement from ZRP to clarify the cause and the identity of the individuals involved in the pursuit.

This tragic incident has raised questions about road safety and the risks involved in high-speed police chases, especially on rural roads like the Bulawayo-Zvishavane route. As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of the two officers, whose names are expected to be released after their families have been notified.
