BOGUS DOCTOR 'Prosper Mpofu' NABBED AT MPILO CENTRAL HOSPITAL.

A suspected bogus doctor was arrested at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo this Tuesday after being caught attending to patients.

The suspect identified as Prosper Mpofu was apprehended while attending to patients at the outpatient department at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.

The alarm was raised after a patient presented a prescription with medication that was not commonly prescribed for the patient’s ailment, prompting hospital staff to investigate.

Mr Thabani Ndlovu recounted how he came into contact with the suspected fake doctor,” I got to know about the doctor through my church mate who was hired by the doctor.

My church mate connected us to him as my wife has a heart problem and we came this morning looking for him but he was not around he told us to wait for him. We then decided to join the queue at the out patient’s department so that when he arrives we would be ready.

We managed to see a doctor at the outpatient department as we waited for him to come since he had offered to help us.”

Ndlovu further said that they managed to see the alleged fake doctor who then took them to the rooms at the out patients department, that is when he was apprehended by hospital authorities.

ZBC News has obtained copies of prescriptions issued by the suspected fake doctor, which contained numerous errors, including incorrect dosages and misspelled drug names.

According to Mpilo hospital authorities, the impostor had infiltrated the hospital’s ranks, wearing a white coat and stethoscope, and presenting himself as a qualified medical professional operating from the outpatients department.

Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the arrest of the bogus doctor.
