CAG Bus Fire Sparks Panic in Hurungwe: Dozens Narrowly Escape Harm

On Wednesday afternoon, a CAG bus traveling from Harare to Kariba was engulfed in flames in Hurungwe, creating a perilous and dramatic situation for dozens of passengers onboard.

Fortunately, despite the chaos, all passengers narrowly escaped without serious injury, though several sustained minor injuries during the frantic evacuation.

The fire erupted suddenly, forcing passengers to scramble out of the vehicle in a desperate bid for safety. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with passengers rushing to disembark as flames quickly spread throughout the bus.

In the panic, some individuals reported losing valuable belongings, including groceries, furniture, and personal items they were carrying on the journey.

“We were lucky to escape, but many of us lost everything we were carrying,” one passenger recounted, reflecting the relief at surviving but also the heavy toll of the incident.

As the blaze consumed the bus, Mashonaland West police spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, confirmed that authorities are still in the process of gathering information regarding the fire. At this stage, the cause remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing to determine what triggered the fire.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, ensuring the safety of the passengers and containing the situation. In the aftermath, investigators are working to piece together the details of the incident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The focus remains on ensuring passenger safety and understanding the factors that led to the sudden fire.
