Chinhoyi’s Town Clerk Maxwell Kaitano Suspended

Chinhoyi’s Town Clerk, Maxwell Kaitano, has been suspended from his duties due to alleged failure to fulfill his responsibilities. However, the suspension process has raised concerns about procedural flaws as Mayor Owen Chauruza was reportedly absent from the meeting.

Kaitano, a lawyer by profession, was relieved of his duties during an extraordinary meeting of the full Council held in the Council chambers last week. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Mayor Councillor Chipo Mhlotshwa, took this decision. Interestingly, both Maxwell Kaitano and Mayor Owen Charuza were reportedly in Harare attending to performance-based signing contracts during the meeting.

Council Spokesperson Tichaona Mlauzi stated that he did not attend the meeting and would refrain from commenting until he has reviewed the full Council minutes.

Mayor Charuza redirected inquiries to Mhlotshwa, emphasizing that she chaired the meeting and would provide more details.

Deputy Mayor Mhlotshwa mentioned that she had little to add regarding the suspension until the Council resolution is implemented.

Chairman of the Combined Chinhoyi Residents Association (CCRA), Tendai Musonza, expressed support for Kaitano’s suspension, stating that it was overdue.
