Chitungwiza | An arrest was made when a 12-year-old girl was raped and became pregnant by a butcher.
Sometime in September of last year, the Grade 6 girl was allegedly enticed to the room at Big-H Butchery by Farai Chezhira (27), of Unit O in Seke, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her once.
On February 6, the girl’s grandma discovered her granddaughter was pregnant and informed the authorities of the abuse.
More investigation revealed that Farai had abused the girl some months prior.

Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, a spokesman for the Harare provincial police, stated that the girl was taken to Unit O Shopping Centre at approximately 2:00 pm on an undisclosed day in September of last year in order to purchase eggs.
She ran across Farai Chezhira, who enticed her inside his abattoir.
The complainant was then tricked by the accused into a room behind the butchery, where he sexually assaulted her once.
The complainant was then threatened with death by the accused if she told anybody about the sexual abuse. When the complainant’s grandma discovered she was pregnant, the situation became public.
According to Inspector Chakanza, “the child was taken to Edith Cooperman Clinic in Mbare, where it was determined that she was pregnant, leading to Farai Chezhira’s arrest.”
Because it is now far too frequent for older males to impregnate underage girls, sexual abuse of teenage girls is a problem that needs to be taken seriously.
Two weeks prior, Yeukai Dandara, 16, died after giving birth to twins, and Tatenda Zhanje, another sexual predator, was taken into custody.
Later on, it came to light that Tatenda had begun abusing his niece sexually in Murehwa when she was fifteen years old.
The two families made the decision to hide the pregnancy and the mistreatment, and they were told to go to Harare, where Yeukai passed away two weeks after having a C-section.
Farai’s arrest may have been a symbolic victory for the family of the Seke schoolgirl, but like many other adolescent moms before her, she will now have to deal with the pain of abuse, poor health, and psychological ramifications of becoming a mother at a young age.

To strongly condemn sexual abuse and the exploitation of youngsters, Farai need to be held accountable for his horrible actions and subject to the full weight of the law.
