City Parking To Educate Drivers On Parking Regulations

Harare | ZiMetro News can reveal that City Parking has pledged to step up public awareness campaigns on parking bylaws among drivers and the general public.

This was made clear on Wednesday during a media stakeholders engagement conference in Harare, when representatives from City Park engaged in productive dialogue with journalists, analysing various challenges to facilitate service improvement in advance of the new year.

“The City Park has two mandates regarding parking by-laws: to penalise nonpayment of parking fees and parking for longer than the allotted time and costs.

He added that there are parking guidelines that call for compliance and motorists are urged to ensure compliance with parking by-laws to ensure order and smooth flow of traffic in the cities.
Temperemental parking marshals will be taken for anger management and re-orientation programmes.

There has been complains that some of the marshals are rude to motorists.

Early this year, City Parking embarked on road and parking bay markings in the Central Business District as part of the company’s efforts to spruce up road and parking infrastructure.

The exercise is being conducted in partnership with City of Harare department of works.

City Park authorities said to tame the traffic jungle there need of bay marking to improve transport flow and champion orderly parking.

City Parking also partnered with its sole shareholder Harare City Council on the refurbishment of Rufaro Stadium.

“It is flattery to be part of the success story but I should clarify that the scope of City Parking’s works covered the erection of brick-and-mortar perimeter wall, clad with a morden clear-view fence,30 small convenience shops ready for lease. Construction of car park that is now ready for use,paved with G blocks and well marked,”explained Mandaza.

He clarified that football supporters will be required to pay for parking on matchdays in response to a query.

“We need money to keep the parking lot in good condition because we are a business,” he stated.
