Elizabeth Mucheche Accused of Forging Power of Attorney and Threatening Life of Businessman

MA Auto Supplies director 'Michael Smith' charged with fraud

A Harare woman, Elizabeth Parerenyatwa Mucheche, appeared in court on charges of perjury and threatening to kill a businessman who is the complainant in her case. The hearing took place before Harare Magistrate Mr. Dennis Mangosi.

According to the State, Mucheche claimed that she was “driven by Mbuya Nehanda” to reclaim an estate that she alleges was stolen from her by the late businessman, Brian James Rhodes. Prosecutors suggested that the case may require further investigation under the Mental Health Act, citing concerns about Mucheche’s mental state. The request for a mental health evaluation was made by Prosecutor Mr. Rufaro Chonzi, but the defense opposed the application, arguing that there was no sufficient basis for the examination.

Magistrate Mangosi remanded Mucheche in custody and set a date for a bail application on Friday, giving time for a potential mental health assessment.

The charges against Mucheche stem from an incident in October 2022, at 5 Woodbridge Close, Glen Lorne, where she allegedly forged a power of attorney that falsely indicated it had been signed by Anne Rhodes, granting her authority as the executor of the estate. This power of attorney was reportedly signed after the death of Brian Rhodes, casting doubt on its authenticity.

Additionally, Mucheche faces allegations of threatening to kill the complainant in July 2024, after he filed a perjury report against her with the ZRP Highlands. The incident also took place at the same address in Glen Lorne.
