Harare | A daring bogus police officer was apprehended while terrorizing motorists along Chinhoyi Street in Harare. The 21-year-old suspect, Munashe Musekiwa, also known as Munemo, was arrested in full police uniform.
Musekiwa appeared before Harare magistrate Apollonia Marutya, where he was not required to plead. Marutya remanded him in custody as the court heard the details of his alleged actions.
According to reports presented in court, the incident occurred on Saturday at the intersection of Chinhoyi Street and Robert Mugabe Avenue. Officers from the Police Anti Corruption Unit, who were conducting patrols in the area, received a tip-off regarding Musekiwa’s activities.
Acting swiftly on the information, the police approached the suspect, who was identified wearing a complete police uniform and wielding a button stick. The anti-corruption team intercepted Musekiwa and proceeded to verify his credentials, only to discover that he was merely a civilian impersonating a police officer.
The arrest sheds light on the dangers posed by individuals who exploit the authority associated with law enforcement for personal gain or nefarious purposes. Such acts not only undermine public trust in the police force but also jeopardize the safety and security of communities.
Thomas Chanakira represented the State in court, highlighting the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the case. As the legal proceedings unfold, Musekiwa’s arrest serves as a reminder of the consequences awaiting those who engage in fraudulent activities under the guise of law enforcement.
