Family Seeks Closure After Tragic Death of Girl Hit by American Diplomat

Grieving Family of Girl Run Over by Diplomat Demands Accountability and Compensation

The family of a young girl who was run over and killed by an American diplomat is in mourning and seeking closure.

Ruvarashe Takamhanya, who aspired to be a pilot, had been living with her grandmother, Gogo Machingura, in Masiiwa Village, Dema, after her parents divorced. The two shared a close bond.

Gogo Machingura recounted a heartbreaking farewell, noting that Ruvarashe had waved goodbye just moments before the accident.

“She had traveled about 10 meters and waved me goodbye,” Machingura said tearfully. Little did she know that this would be their final farewell. She received the devastating news at the Ward Centre.

“I was informed that my granddaughter had been hit and was still alive but severely injured,” Machingura revealed. “By the time I got there, she had already passed away. The alleged perpetrator reportedly left the scene to report the incident to the police, but we have yet to see him.”

Machingura expressed her anguish, stating, “While we understand it was an accident, our hearts are still broken. We believe we should be compensated for our loss.”

Ruvarashe’s biological father, Mr. Silvester Takamhanya, also spoke to the media, emphasizing the need for closure. “I’m not asking for much, but the individual responsible should recognize that our daughter had her own dreams,” he said.

“She had big plans, including promises to buy houses for her family. We feel that some form of compensation would help us find solace.”
