A prompt response from the Fire Brigade prevented a potential catastrophe when a fire erupted at a city service station during a fuel transfer operation yesterday.
As fuel attendants at SOGO Service Station on Seke Road were decanting 10,000 liters of diesel, flames suddenly erupted.
Thankfully, the Fire Brigade acted swiftly and extinguished the fire before it could spread further.
Unfortunately, the tanker driver was injured and promptly taken to the hospital by an ambulance.
Extensive damage occurred to two cars and the fuel tanker itself.
Additionally, some Drip Tech water bowser tanks were also damaged by the fire.
Stanley Gama, spokesperson for the council, stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

Gama commended the Fire Brigade for their rapid response, noting that their timely action likely prevented more extensive damage.
Witnesses at the scene said that they believed a dispute between the tanker driver and a supervisor over safety concerns may have triggered the fire.
“Driver naSupervisor vatombonestana zvekudaro nenyaya yekuti vanoshandasei ipapa.”
They emphasized the crucial role of the Fire Brigade’s swift arrival, suggesting that even a five-minute delay could have resulted in a much larger disaster.
