Five Candidates Enter Race for Mt Pleasant & Harare East By-Elections

Five candidates have officially submitted their nomination papers to the Nomination Court in preparation for the upcoming by-elections slated for April 27 in Mt Pleasant and Harare East.

As reported by NewZimbabwe.com, the submission process concluded promptly at 4 PM. However, the court extended its session until around 8 PM, having convened throughout Tuesday.

Among the successful candidates are Mamuse Nason, running independently, along with George Mashavave and Kiven Mutimbanyoka from ZANU PF. Additionally, Brian Ticky and Ropafadzo Cynthia Cheza have also filed their nominations as independent candidates.

David Chitimbe of Changu Chimuti Chakapinda Chapinda (CCCC), seeking to contest for the Harare East seat, fell short of the required nomination fee of US$1,000.

In the Mt Pleasant constituency, the candidates vying for the seat include Mashavave, Ticky, and Mamuse. Meanwhile, Mutimbanyoka and Cheza will be competing in Harare East.

The vacancies in these constituencies arose when former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators, Fadzayi Mahere (Mt Pleasant) and Allan Markham (Harare East), voluntarily stepped down. Their resignations were formally tendered in accordance with Section 129 (1) (b) of the Constitution.
