Five Fawcett Security staff members are under investigation in connection with an armed robbery at their company premises in Chipinge, Zimbabwe.
Despite extensive questioning, no arrests have been made, and the stolen funds, amounting to US$111,411 and R1,281,320, remain unrecovered.
The robbery occurred when armed assailants intercepted the company’s patrol vehicle in Chipinge town. Two security guards were attacked, and their uniforms were stolen.
The robbers then drove the vehicle to the security company’s premises, where they attacked three more guards and stole the cash.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the robbery was an inside job, with a mole within the company providing crucial information to the assailants. The robbery took place around 3 AM on a Wednesday last week.

According to police reports, two Fawcett Security officers, George Nhamo Sithole and Dzime Sithole, were on patrol when they were confronted by two armed men. The robbers disarmed the officers, forced them into the vehicle’s cash compartment, and drove off to the Fawcett Security Company premises.
Upon arrival, the robbers forced the security officer on duty, Mauka Chigonese, to open the gate. They then attacked and tied up Chigonese and two other guards, Taurai Tarangwa and Gordon Gurudza.
The robbers disabled the alarm system, opened the vault, and stole the cash. They then drove away with the security guards still in the vehicle.
The police recovered several items at the scene, including firearms, tools, and the stolen uniforms. They are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
