Florence Pambukani to Spend More Time in Jail as State Unearths 1995 Conviction

Victims of a well-orchestrated land scam at Crowhill Farm have approached ZACC and the Police to arrest the perpetrators of the land fraud, jail-birds, Florence and Felix Pambukani

Harare | Florence Behane Pambukani will remain in remand prison for two additional nights as the State has been instructed to obtain an extract of her previous 1995 conviction.

Rufaro Chonzi, representing the State, opposed Pambukani’s bail request, citing her status as an ex-convict, which makes her unsuitable for bail.

Chonzi requested a postponement to allow the investigating officer time to retrieve the case record from the National Archives.

The bail hearing will continue tomorrow.

As a result, Pambukani will have spent six days in custody since her arrest on Friday.

Pambukani is accused of defrauding Clemence Ngwenduna, a land seeker, out of US$21,500.

The allegations state that in April 2016, Pambukani, through her son Jeffrey Tendai Kariwo, sold a residential stand and signed a Memorandum of Agreement of Sale for share number 5494 in Borrowdale estate with Tawanda Chamunorwa for US$15,900.

The payment was made in cash through Antonio & Dzvetero Legal Practitioners Trust Account.

The State claims that on February 13 of last year, Pambukani sold the same property to Ngwenduna for US$15,900.

Ngwenduna paid the amount through Mutuso, Taruvinga & Mhiribidi Attorneys.

She also allegedly charged him US$5,600 for conveyancing fees.

Ngwenduna made several follow-ups through his lawyers regarding the transfer, but Pambukani became evasive.

Upon checking with the Registrar of Deeds Offices, Ngwenduna discovered the property was registered to Tawanda Chamunorwa.

Ngwenduna reported the case to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission, which confirmed that the property was indeed registered to Chamunorwa, who had purchased it from Pambukani.
