Former Warriors Captain Willard Katsande Eyes Coaching Role for Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs

Former Warriors captain, Willard Katsande, has set his sights on coaching South African Premiership club Kaizer Chiefs and leading Zimbabwe’s senior men’s football team, following his retirement from professional play in 2022.

Currently involved in Crystal Lake’s technical staff within South Africa’s SAB league, Willard Katsande expressed his ambitions on #Marawa Sports Worldwide, hosted by esteemed sportscaster Robert Marawa

Katsande expressed his goals in the interview, saying, “Yeah, I still want to coach the Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs very soon.” After I finish my coaching certification, I’m going to knock on doors. With a CAF D licence in hand and plans to work for a CAF C qualification in June, Katsande stressed the need to take his time in his coaching career, saying, “I’m not in a hurry to sit on the Kaizer Chiefs technical bench.” In four years, I believe I’ll not only be the team’s leader but also a trophy winner. I’m going to attempt to alter the perception of Kaizer Chiefs among the public.

The 2010 Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League champions, Gunners Football Club, noticed Katsande during his time with Highway Football Club. His impressive performances, most notably in the team’s 1-0 victory over former African champions Al Ahly at Rufaro Stadium, catapulted him to the forefront. Katsande’s football career began in the lower divisions, where he honed his skills with teams like Frontier Steel Football Club, Feruka Football Club, and Highway Football Club.

Katsande’s career reached a major turning point when Ajax Cape Town signed him for the 2010–2011 campaign after noticing his talent. From then on, he kept up his excellent play, laying the groundwork for his eventual switch from player to coach and his potential influence on the coaching staffs of both club and national teams.
