Two individuals lost their lives, and one person was injured when a Toyota Probox carrying ten passengers veered off the road and overturned. The police stated:
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 162-kilometre peg along Mutare-Masvingo Road on 04/10/24 at around 1645 hours. The deceased were transported to Silveira Mission Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured individual is receiving treatment at the same facility. The presence of ten passengers in the Probox raises concerns about overloading, suggesting that the vehicle was operating illegally as a “mushikashika” taxi, which poses significant safety risks.
On the same day, another fatal accident occurred when a Toyota Sprinter, carrying four passengers, collided with a Nissan UD lorry that had one passenger on board at around 7:40 PM at the 35-kilometre peg along the Harare-Mukumbura Road. Two people died in this incident, and three others were injured. The victims’ bodies were taken to the Concession Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were admitted to the same hospital.
