Harare, Zimbabwe | Award-winning Zimdancehall artist Emegy Sylvester Chizanga, popularly known as Freeman, is set to release his 13th album, Me vs Me, alongside the first-ever HKD Festival at Alex Sports Club in Harare at the end of the month.
The HKD Festival will feature an impressive lineup of artists, including Voltz JT, Poptain, Feli Nandi, Delroy, She Calaz, Master H, Tamy Moyo, Takura, Nyasha David, Nutty O, and Holy Ten, among others.
In an interview with Standard Style, Freeman explained that the album’s title, Me vs Me, reflects his journey of self-improvement and personal growth.
“The album title Me vs Me represents me competing with myself, accepting my imperfections, and staying true to my own path,” he said. “It’s about finding a balance between my heart and my mind.”

Freeman revealed that the album incorporates a mix of Afro fusion and Afro pop, and the project took just over a year to complete.
“This album features a lot of Afro fusion and Afro pop, and you’ll even hear some of the classic Freeman sound,” he shared. “It took over a year to put together. Some tracks were started a while ago and revisited, while others were created just a few months ago.”
He expressed gratitude to his team, including producers Shamex and Tama, for their contributions to the project.
“I don’t have a specific writing process for this album. My team and I brainstormed ideas, sounds, and the right producers to bring it all together. Huge thanks to Shamex, Tama, and the entire team for making it happen.”
Freeman believes Me vs Me surpasses the quality of his previous album, Trophy.
“In comparison to my last album Trophy, the production quality on Me vs Me is on another level,” he said. “The Trophy album was great, but the production and vocals on this one are incredible. Shout out to Nelit for that.”
Freeman also shared that his favorite track on the new album, found on track four, is dedicated to his wife.
“There are a lot of tracks and collaborations on this album that I can’t reveal just yet, but track number four is special. It’s dedicated to my wife, and it’s also her favorite,” he said. “I wrote it from the heart, and I even used my local dialect, ‘Chikore Chikore.’ Make sure to check it out.”
He encouraged fans to support the album by streaming it and attending his shows, noting that success will be measured by audience engagement and streaming numbers.
“Fans can help the album succeed by streaming the music and showing up to my shows. I’m already on tour, but the official album tour kicks off after the launch,” Freeman said. “The success will be based on the numbers, and I hope to surpass the success of the Trophy album, which remains my most streamed project to date.”
“I invite everyone to come out for the album launch and the inaugural HKD Festival. It’s going to be a memorable event. Don’t forget to follow me on social media for updates: @realfreemanhkd @freemanhkd,” he added.
