Honda Fit Gang Causing Accidents to Rob Drivers

A criminal gang operating in Harare has been intentionally causing accidents using a Honda Fit vehicle as a tactic to rob motorists, as confirmed by the police on Wednesday.

Authorities disclosed that they are actively investigating two recent incidents involving the gang, one of which resulted in a motorist losing a substantial sum of US$27,000 in cash.

According to a statement issued by police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, one of the reported incidents occurred on April 9 at the intersection of Hurtsview Drive and Lantana Way in Ridgeview. The victim, traveling in a Toyota Mark X vehicle, was rear-ended by a Honda Fit deliberately.

This modus operandi, where accidents are staged to facilitate robberies, has raised serious concerns among law enforcement agencies and motorists alike. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further occurrences of such criminal activities on Harare’s roads.

“Three suspects armed with a hammer attacked the motorist before stealing the Mark X vehicle.

“A day earlier, on April 8, at around 9.30PM, a motorist lost US$27,300 cash after the Toyota Mark X he was driving was hit from behind by a Honda Fit along Derby Road in Avondale.”

Police are on the hunt for the criminals, Nyathi said.
