Hopewell Chin’ono has finally released his award-winning documentary film ‘Last White Man’ with an African audience, after a decade of his admirers imploring him to do so.
In a message seen by ZiMetro News on his Twitter, Chin’ono said:
Some young people have asked me to share some of my international work which wasn’t broadcast in Africa.
Today I am sharing, Last White Man, a documentary film where I was the Director of Photography and Sound.
When I won a scholarship to read Documentary Filmmaking in Britain, instead of choosing the required courses only for my second Masters degree, I decided to study all the optionals that were on offer for the program.
I threw myself into my studies at Brunel University in order to get every skill on offer on that course, and the result is that there is nothing that I can’t do in filmmaking.
Some chose to focus on the bare minimum requirement for specializing on the program.
I realized that this was a once in a lifetime chance so I took all the courses on offer.
My advise to young prospective filmmakers or broadcasters is to study everything available.
This has allowed me to not only become a documentary film director but to be director of photography, sound and have editing skills and also to work in television news s a reporter, producer or camera.
In this film I deployed my camera and sound training to use.
Enjoy the film and share your comments below regarding the film.
Last White Man was directed by Yorgos Avgeropoulos for Greek National Television through Exandas.
It was produced by Nina Maria Paschalidou and shot by Hopewell Chin’ono in 2009.
