Ntandoyenkosi Sibanda, 32, from Chikanga, Mutare, and Ashley Munyaradzi Matika, 20, from Dangamvura, both employed as housemaids, appeared in court in Mutare facing theft charges.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) reported that the theft took place on July 11, 2024, when the pair stole a cash box containing $26,000 from their employer’s bedroom and later divided the money between themselves.

The theft was discovered the following day, prompting the employer to report the incident to the police. Investigations led to the arrest of both suspects, and the cash box was recovered along with $7,800.
Sibanda and Matika were sentenced to 36 months in prison, with 6 months suspended. An additional 12 months was suspended on the condition that they repay the stolen amount, while the remaining time was suspended contingent upon each completing 630 hours of community service.
