Incarcerated Businessman Isau Mupfumi ‘Detained’ in Hospital

Mutare | Prominent Mutare businessman and Zanu PF member, Isau Mupfumi, was hospitalized after his health deteriorated in police custody following his arrest on Sunday, according to ZiMetro News.

Mupfumi, along with 21 others, was arrested in connection with a violent incident at the old Harare rank in Mutare on May 23. He is accused of being the ringleader of the clash, allegedly trying to assert his dominance against competitors, including Inter-Africa owned by Leonard Mukumba.

A source revealed that Mupfumi had to be rushed to the hospital after falling ill in his cell. He reportedly claimed that he had not fully recovered from a minor stroke suffered recently when he was robbed of USD 60,000 at his garage.

The recent arrest exacerbated his condition.

Police spokesperson Paul Nyati was not available for comment, but the source confirmed that Isau Mupfumi is under heavy police guard in the hospital.

The arrest has sent shockwaves through the business and political communities in Mutare, with many speculating about the real reasons behind his detention amidst the ongoing ‘bus wars’ in the city.
