Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims to attract exceptional students worldwide to pursue their PhD degrees at institutions in Hong Kong.

Number of Awards:
A total of 400 PhD Fellowships will be available for the 2025/26 academic year.

The fellowships are open to international students.
Scholarship Value/Inclusions/Duration:
The fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$ 337,200 (approximately US$43,230) and a travel allowance for conference and research-related expenses of HK$ 14,000 (approximately US$1,790) per year, for up to three years.
Eligibility:
Applicants must seek admission as new full-time PhD students at UGC-funded institutions in Hong Kong, regardless of their nationality, prior work experience, or ethnic background. Candidates should demonstrate exceptional academic performance, research potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership qualities.
Application Instructions:
Eligible candidates should first submit an Initial Application online through the HKPFS Electronic System (HKPFSES) to receive an HKPFS Reference Number, which is necessary for applying for PhD admission at their chosen universities. The application deadline is December 1, 2024, at 12:00 PM Hong Kong Time.
