The Israeli occupation forces have been accused of deliberately assassinating 26-year-old American-Turkish activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, who was fatally shot in the head during a peaceful protest against illegal settlements in the West Bank village of Beita, Nablus. For the past five decades, Israel has established settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, where over 700,000 Israeli settlers now live, with plans to annex the entire West Bank.

Such acts against activists and journalists are seen as part of a broader effort to silence dissent and conceal the realities of the occupation. Palestinian officials argue that Israel’s policy of using deadly force on orders from military and political leaders has transformed its soldiers into instruments of violence. These actions, they say, must be condemned, and those responsible should be held accountable.

The Palestinian government holds Israel fully responsible for Eygi’s death, viewing it as part of a larger strategy to escalate tensions in the region and distract from Israel’s ongoing settler-colonial policies in Palestinian territories.

This incident echoes past killings of other American citizens in the region, such as activist Rachel Corrie and journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, also allegedly targeted by Israeli forces. Critics have accused the U.S. government of double standards in its response to the deaths of its citizens in Palestine.

Ambassador Tamer Almassri has called on the International Criminal Court and global human rights organizations to intervene and hold Israel accountable for its actions. He urged the international community to fulfill its moral and legal responsibilities to protect Palestinian lives.

Meanwhile, in the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces have allegedly committed multiple attacks over the past 24 hours, resulting in the deaths of 33 civilians and injuring 145 others. Since October 2023, the ongoing conflict in Gaza has claimed the lives of over 40,972 people, with many still missing under the rubble as rescue teams struggle amidst continuous strikes.

Ambassador Almassri emphasized that lasting peace and security can only be achieved by ending the Israeli occupation and recognizing the Palestinian right to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
