Job Sikhala Acquitted, But to Remain in Prison for Other Charges!
CCC politician Job Sikhala successfully contested his conviction and imprisonment, leading to his acquittal on the allegation of impeding the process of justice.
As an appeal court, Justices Pisirayi Kwenda and Benjamin Chikowero granted the appeal and overturned the trial court’s ruling.
After sharing on social media a video of Ms. Moreblessing Ali’s murder and the ensuing violence in Nyatsime, Kenya, in May of last year, Sikhala was found guilty of obstruction of justice and fined US$600.
He was given a deadline of May 5th by the court to pay the fee or face a six-month jail sentence.
In addition, he was given a whole six-month suspension, subject to his not committing a similar act for the following five years.
Sikhala was still detained, though, since the criminal courts were still handling three of his outstanding charges.
