Teachers at Kandana Primary School in Bulilima, Matabeleland South, are reportedly being terrorized by an alleged female goblin, causing unrest among staff.
Some teachers have threatened to leave if the situation persists, as the incidents have been occurring since June 2023 but were only brought to the attention of community leaders this term. The school is located near the late Chief Kandana’s homestead.
According to one teacher, the goblin has been visiting at night, leaving behind items such as kitchen utensils and creating strange noises, as if someone is walking or cooking in their homes.
Another teacher reported experiencing a sensation of heaviness while sleeping, as though the invisible creature was sitting on them. While no sexual assaults have occurred, teachers expressed fear that such incidents could happen in the future.
Some suspect the goblin may be linked to the one that previously harassed police officers at Gwambe Clinic, where male officers were reportedly assaulted by female goblins while they slept.
If the problem remains unresolved, teachers have indicated they may request transfers. In response, the local community has organized a meeting and is raising funds to hire witch hunters for an exorcism.
Village head Edward Magutshwa has called on the diaspora community to assist financially, expressing concern that the school could be forced to close if the issue is not addressed.
Local councillor Ambassador Mabehdi Ngulani acknowledged the situation but noted that he has not yet gathered full details, as he has been away from the community.
