Mabvuku turn-off accident claims one life, injures four others

HARARE, ZIMBABWE – A fatal road traffic accident involving five private vehicles which occurred at the Mabvuku turn-off at the intersection of Mutare Road and Donnybrook Road on Thursday morning, resulted in one death and four injuries, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said.

The incident, which took place around 7 a.m., was triggered when a Mercedes Benz, carrying one passenger, allegedly proceeded against a red light and collided with a Toyota Corolla carrying four passengers.

The Toyota Corolla was turning right onto Mutare Road from Donnybrook Road at the time of the collision.

Following the initial impact, the Mercedes Benz continued on its destructive path, striking a Toyota Vitz with one passenger, an Isuzu D-Max pickup with two passengers, and a Toyota Revo with one passenger.

The force of the collision caused the Mercedes Benz to land on the bonnet and windscreen of the Toyota Revo, police said.

Emergency services arrived promptly at the scene, but despite their efforts, one person succumbed to their injuries. The identities of the deceased and injured have not yet been released.

In a statement on Friday, police said authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic accident.

The ZRP has extended its condolences to the family of the deceased.
