Madzibaba Ishmael’s two sons, aged 11 and 13, have never had the opportunity to attend school since their birth.
Shadreck, 11, and Amon, 13, have been forbidden from pursuing education by their 54-year-old father.
Since 2020, when Madzibaba Ishmael and his first wife, Tendai Mukombe, ended their marriage due to his polygamous beliefs, the two boys have been living with their mother.
According to Mukombe, Shadreck and Amon express a strong desire to enroll in Grade One, as they lack basic literacy skills.
“I opposed Madzibaba Ishmael’s doctrine of denying children an education,” said Tendai.
“My two sons eagerly wish to attend school, just like other children their age.
“Should we start Grade One at their advanced ages?” They expressed their desire.
“They are not concerned about potential ridicule from their peers regarding their age.
“I have encouraged them, instilled hope in them, and emphasized the importance of education.”
She continued:
“Madzibaba Ishmael himself attended school, but his eldest daughter, Lissard, was prevented from continuing her education after Form 2 and was married off.
“Miriam completed Grade 7 before marrying.
“Abedinico only attended Grade 1, while the others never had the opportunity to attend school.
“If I had the means, Shadreck and Amon would be in school.
“They possess intelligence, but their chances, prospects, and aspirations have been thwarted by Madzibaba Ishmael.
“I am constantly under surveillance by individuals who are paid to monitor my interactions with my children.”
Shadreck and Amon endure taunts from their peers due to their lack of literacy.
Madzibaba Ishmael’s deputy and father-in-law, James Gwenzi, reiterated that their church doctrine prohibits children from receiving formal education.
It is reported that Madzibaba James arranged for one of his young daughters to marry Madzibaba Ishmael.
Both Madzibaba Ishmael and Madzibaba James were arrested, along with others, at Lily Farm in Nyabira.
