The Mega Borehole drilling project in Chitungwiza has encountered a major setback after Prophet Walter Magaya was ordered to refund US$90 million to the investor due to a fraud and lack of transparency in his dealings with the Chitungwiza Municipality.
The project, intended to improve water delivery in Chitungwiza and the surrounding areas of Seke, was initiated by Prophet Magaya through his company, Wistmer Investment. However, Councilor Gylord Chenjera disclosed that Magaya failed to adhere to proper procedures, causing divisions among the councilors.
This is not the first time Walter Magaya has been involved in questionable dealings and fraudulent activities. He has pending cases where he is accused of defrauding thousands, if not millions, of dollars through his shadow company, Yadah Connect.
During a recent council meeting, it was revealed that Prophet Magaya had not submitted the necessary documents, prompting the investor to demand a refund. The meeting was abruptly adjourned after councillors expressed outrage, with accusations of bribery being thrown around.
“We know you have taken bribes from Magaya!” one councillor shouted, while others voiced their frustration over the project’s mismanagement.
The controversy has cast serious doubts on the transparency and accountability of the project and Prophet Magaya’s involvement. The situation remains unresolved, with further developments anticipated in the coming days.
