Harare | A man, Allen Dzowa, has been accused of assaulting his first wife and leaving her disabled.
Dzowa, who works at Croco Motors, has now been ordered to pay spousal maintenance to her.
Euna Nyatsuro told the Harare Civil Court that Dzowa should look after her because his beatings left her disabled and she could no longer work.
“He is my husband and is in the habit of moving out to stay with other women.
“He assaulted me and I suffered bad injuries.
“I can’t work and had to request my daughter and son-in-law to come back to Zimbabwe to take care of me,” said Euna.
Dzowa told the court that he had broken up with Euna two years ago and had since married two other women.
He said Euna wants him to pay bills, which include water and electricity, despite her living with their able-bodied daughter and son-in-law.
“We parted ways two years ago and I am now married to two other wives.
“I can give her US$40 because I have two wives and minor children.
“I am about to retire and I do not go to work frequently because I am diabetic.
“Our daughter is married and they stay together at my house with her husband and they can pay the bills,” he said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dlamini ordered Dzowa to pay US$60 spousal maintenance.
