Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information Communication Technology Postal & Courier Services, Honourable Tatenda Mavetera, has been elected Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of ICT (CMICT) under the Smart Africa Alliance.
In a statement, Minister Mavetera said she was honoured by the confidence shown in her by fellow African ministers. She described the appointment as not only a personal achievement but also a sign of Zimbabwe’s growing role in driving digital transformation across the continent.
“During my two-year term, I will focus on strengthening cooperation among African countries, aligning ICT policies, and speeding up projects aimed at closing the digital gap. These efforts are part of the Smart Africa vision to create a single digital market across Africa.
A united digital Africa will help create opportunities for young people, support entrepreneurs, and improve economies through technology,” she said.
She also thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his continued support in promoting innovation and digital development in Zimbabwe.
The minister added that she looks forward to working with Vice-Chair Djibril Ouattara and the Smart Africa Secretariat, led by Lacina Koné, to advance Africa’s digital agenda.
Hon Mavetera called on African countries to work together to build a connected and digitally empowered continent.
