MMA fighter Themba Gorimbo has received official approval to proudly represent Zimbabwe in his sport.
After previously competing under the South African flag, Gorimbo’s dedication has been recognised by the Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Kirsty Coventry.
In a letter from the Sports and Recreation Commission, Gorimbo has been granted the honor of displaying the Zimbabwean flag during his Mixed Martial Arts competitions and associated events.
SRC Chairman Gerald Mlotshwa conveyed the Commission’s pleasure in granting this authorisation and reminded Gorimbo of the necessity of prior approval for any changes to his kit.
“The approved colours are as presented in your application, above. Kindly note that any change in the kit will require our prior approval”, said Gerald Mlotshwa SRC Chairman.

Themba Gorimbo hopped onto X (Twitter) to rejoice over the approval.
“I am truly grateful and happy my voice has been heard and I get to have my country flag on my fight kit going forward. This is big. As an athlete in @ufc, it feels good to see your country’s flag on your gear. This is part of the story & history. Thank you to everyone who played a part”, said Gorimbo.
