Mubobobo village head caught naked in kraal
In a peculiar incident that unfolded in Chief Shumba’s area in Masvingo District, a village head suspected of practicing black magic, commonly known as mubobobo, targeting both women and animals, was caught in a compromising situation in his younger brother’s cattle enclosure.
While many men believed to be involved in mubobobo tend to target sleeping women for their own pleasure, Martin Gaviro, the village head of Gaviro Village, shockingly confessed that his preference lay with donkeys after being apprehended in his brother’s cattle pen, reciting incantations without his pants on.
The revelation came to light when Jacob Gaviro, Martin’s younger brother, who had harbored suspicions about his sibling’s dark activities, decided to follow him to the cattle pen one evening. To his dismay, he caught Martin in the act, which prompted him to alert other family members about the disturbing discovery.

Chief Shumba, also known as Ernest Chekai, confirmed the incident, expressing his dismay over such actions tarnishing the community’s reputation. He disclosed that Martin admitted to his vile deeds involving animals and pledged to address the matter through traditional or faith healing methods.
“I presided over a distressing case where a village head was caught red-handed in his brother’s cattle pen. It’s disheartening to deal with issues that stain our society’s image,” remarked Chief Shumba. He mandated Martin to compensate his brother with a beast and urged them to seek spiritual guidance for his behavior, considering the severity of the situation.
Jacob corroborated the incident, narrating how he stumbled upon Martin’s illicit activities after receiving guidance from a local apostolic sect prophet. The suspicions were further fueled by recurring problems with his donkeys, leading him to believe they were being spiritually abused.
The culmination of events led to a family gathering and subsequent intervention by Chief Shumba, who demanded restitution and spiritual cleansing to rid Martin of his demons. The village head was required to offer two beasts—one to the chief’s court and another to his brother, as a form of reparation for the disgrace brought upon the community.
