A negligent motorist who ran over a young couple and fled along Mutare Road has been seen in court.
On Monday, Christopher Sithole (46), who was charged with culpable murder, failure to stop, and failing to report an accident to police within 24 hours, was brought before the court.
After the terrible accident, Sithole was trying to get his car mended when he was detained at a panel beater shop.
He is accused of failing to provide a plausible justification for the car’s damage.
Takudzwa Marange and Princess Moyo, who were standing on the side of the road next to their car, were struck by Sithole’s careless driving on July 8 at approximately 1 am along Mutare Road, according to the court’s hearing.
Sithole did not stop after the collision to help the victims or to assess the severity of their wounds.
Unable to file a police report as required by the Traffic Act, Sithole sought to fix his automobile, and the police were tipped off by a panel beater.
For the State, Grace Mugocheke appeared.
