Former President’s Department Director of Investments Nash Dzimiri was posthumously declared a national hero by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the ruling ZANU PF party. On April 16, Dzimiri, also fondly referred to as “Tambaoga Mwanangu,” passed away in Harare.
Mike Bimha, the National Political Commissar of ZANU PF, informed Dzimiri’s family in Harare of the honour bestowed upon them. His daughter Joyful Dzimiri thanked President Mnangagwa for the accolade, saying:
“The Dzimiri family would like to express its sincere gratitude to President Emerson Mnangagwa and the government for designating my father as a national hero. Given his noteworthy achievements to the country, the President thought it appropriate to confer upon him this prestigious honour.”

On June 24, 1958, Nash Dzimiri was born in Shurugwi District. Before pursuing his senior studies at Lower Gweru Adventist High School, he completed his elementary education at a number of different institutions.
In 1976, Dzimiri crossed Chiqualaquala on foot in order to join the ZANLA liberation movement in Mozambique. He trained at Chimoio Camp and was then sent to Gaza province, where he worked until 1977.
Later, he studied intelligence in China and came back to Mozambique as a military instructor. After Zimbabwe gained independence, Dzimiri was crucial in integrating ZANLA fighters into the Zimbabwe National Army. In 1983, he joined the Central Intelligence Organisation and was stationed in diverse provinces.
