Nduna Remanded in Custody for the Next 14 Days

Former Chegutu West legislator Dexter Taona Nduna, 53, will remain in remand prison for the next two weeks after the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court denied him bail on fraud charges. He has been remanded in custody until October 29, 2024.

Nduna was initially remanded while his bail application was being processed. However, the court ultimately rejected his request yesterday.

The allegations state that earlier this month, Nduna falsely claimed to two motorists that he was collecting parking fees on behalf of the Municipality of Chegutu. Prosecutor Mr. Tafadzwa Vhore alleged that a company linked to Nduna, called Team Chapter, was involved in collecting these parking fees.

When the motorists expressed disbelief, a police report was filed, leading to his arrest. Nduna was represented in court by Unite Saizi from Saizi Law Chambers.

Last week, Nduna deleted a tweet he posted on his X account, stating that Team Chapter would be taking over parking operations in Harare. In his post, he admitted that he had not conducted proper due diligence, which prompted him to remove the tweet. “I have pulled down the tweet about the deployment of Team Chapter operatives for October 7, 2024, because it did not comply fully with the law,” he stated.
