Opposition figure Nelson Chamisa recently disclosed his grassroots efforts to gauge public sentiment and strategize his political future independently of any party affiliation. Following his resignation from the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in January due to alleged Zanu PF infiltration, Chamisa reiterated his focus on fostering a new government rather than forming another political entity.
Despite ongoing associations with factions within the CCC, Chamisa clarified that his engagements, including the Blue Movement campaign led by his allies, aim at galvanizing support for systemic change. In an exclusive interview with NewsDay, Chamisa emphasized his extensive outreach efforts, meeting with community leaders and citizens across the countryside to mobilize for change.
Rejecting the results of the August 23 and 24 elections, Chamisa has been actively seeking regional and international support to address Zimbabwe’s political crisis. He has held discussions with diplomatic representatives, including Canadian and British ambassadors, underscoring his commitment to ensuring the people’s will prevails.

Chamisa highlighted the importance of wide-ranging consultations with various stakeholders, both domestically and internationally, including labor unions, religious groups, students, women’s organizations, and traditional leaders. He stressed the necessity of a comprehensive approach to address Zimbabwe’s challenges, acknowledging the support received from regional bodies like SADC and the AU.
Asserting that the national leadership question remains unresolved, Nelson Chamisa emphasized the need for a thorough examination of electoral processes to ensure credibility and legitimacy. He underscored SADC’s previous assessment that Zimbabwe’s elections lacked credibility, signaling the ongoing relevance of addressing electoral integrity issues.
Chamisa’s proactive engagement reflects his commitment to advocating for democratic reforms and systemic change in Zimbabwe, underscoring the enduring spirit of hope and determination among the populace for a better future.
