Body Found in Free State Dam May Belong to Kidnapped Gang Leader Peter Jaggers

The family of alleged gang leader Peter Jaggers, reportedly kidnapped by a Colombian cartel demanding a ransom of R50 million, has traveled to Gauteng to identify a body that matches his description, discovered in a dam.

Jaggers’s body was found in a Free State dam alongside another man. Both were submerged with chains and sandbags, and their bodies showed signs of decomposition.

The Hawks have remained tight-lipped amid numerous inquiries from the media and the police. Last month, they confirmed an investigation into Jaggers’ kidnapping but declined to provide further details due to the case’s sensitivity.

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie, the Hawks are the appropriate authority to comment on the situation. He stated, “We are not at liberty to discuss the alleged kidnapping and murder as it is under investigation by the Hawks in Gauteng.”

Identification of the body may rely on markings such as tattoos. Jaggers’s friend, known as “Mr. Zulu KKAFAM Agency,” expressed condolences on TikTok, writing, “My brother, my friend, until we meet again, fly high.” The post received over 100 comments, with many sharing their sympathy and others cautioning against glorifying gangsters.

Social media is filled with tributes from friends and family mourning Jaggers. Reports suggest he may have stolen R1 billion worth of cocaine, leading to speculation about his demise at the hands of the cartel.

Jaggers, who had a stronghold in Netreg, was reportedly attending a meeting with a business partner in Gauteng when he was abducted. His wife reported him missing on July 5 after he disappeared following his arrival in Gauteng on July 3.

His family received a voice note demanding ransom for his release. Additionally, it was suggested that another individual, William Peterson, might have also been kidnapped, though police have not confirmed this. Peterson is believed to be linked to the Terrible Josters gang, associated with the notorious 28s gang.

Furthermore, he is connected to the Berta Fishing Experience vessel, which made headlines in March when six fishermen went missing at sea. Reports indicated that they had run out of fuel during their outing.

JP Smith, a Mayco member for safety and security, has expressed concerns over drug sales at ports. He previously suggested that the missing vessel was used to transport drugs, alleging that it was a cover for picking up a large cocaine shipment from passing container ships, with GPS coordinates provided to local gangs. He claimed Jaggers attempted to retain control of the cocaine shipment he was transporting, alleging the boat had sunk.
