A suspected armed robber was apprehended after profiting from imprisoned prosecutor Henry Muringani’s unlawful scheme to falsify documents and grant armed robbers bail.
Conwell Kasambarare is accused of obstructing the administration of justice.
The Petzim Service Station in Machipisa, Highfield, was robbed on January 9, 2021, according to evidence presented in court by Kasambarare and his associates Mike Harris Chiyangwa, Spicer Takawira, and Chamunorwa Takawira.
They were armed with a pistol and pretended that they wanted fuel for their car.
They confronted the security guard and tied his limbs with shoe laces at gunpoint.
They went to the office, where they attempted to break a safe, but failed.
They stole 14 Exide batteries which they loaded into their car and drove off.
They appeared in court and were granted bail.
While on bail, Kasambarare went on to rob Mashwede offices in Arcadia, and was arrested.
He tried on several occasions to apply for bail and failed.
He, however, managed to engage prosecutor Muringani, who altered his papers to unlawful entry, and he was granted bail, and had been on the run since.
Muringani was handed a 20-year jail term for criminal abuse of duty.
