Police Arrest Men Who Assaulted Mnangagwa’s Nephew

Deputy Minister Tongai Mnangagwa Assaulted

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have arrested the two men who assaulted President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s nephew, Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa.

Tongai Mnangagwa, also serving as the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, was attacked by a suspected drug dealer in Harare’s Avenues area on Tuesday night.

The assault stemmed from a disagreement over a parking space outside Trud Mansions, situated at the corner of 6th Street and Fife Avenue in Harare.

In a police statement, the police confirmed the arrest of Antony Mwedziwendira (30) and Jaspa Cephas Kuziva (25) in connection with the assault of Deputy Minister Tongai Mnangagwa and suspected dealing in dangerous drugs.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Antony Mwedziwendira (30) and Jaspa Cephas Kuziva (25) in connection with illegal dealing in dangerous drugs and assault which occurred in Avenues area, Harare on 30th January 2024,” reads part of the statement.

One of the arrested suspects, Antony Mwedziwewendira, is reported to have attacked the deputy minister and his aide before fleeing the scene.

The suspect later fled from the scene leaving his vehicles behind, comprising a BMW 5301 vehicle, registration number AES 2955 and a Mercedes Benz C240 vehicle, registration number ADQ 1822.
