Police Detective Fatally Stabs Fellow Officer at Nightclub

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) reports that a police detective  Farai Simudzirai from CID Mwenezi has appeared in the Karoi Magistrates’ Court on allegations of murder.

The accusations are based on an event that happened on April 21, 2024, at a nightclub in Karoi while the accused, Farai Simudzirai (42), was having beer with Mirirai Chiweza. The now-deceased police officer Privillege Hove was also present.

According to reports, a misunderstanding led to a fight between Simudzirai and other customers. Chiweza led Simudzirai outside the club in an effort to diffuse the tension.

But once outside, Chiweza was allegedly attacked by Simudzirai. When Hove interfered to break up the fight, Simudzirai allegedly pulled an okapi knife out of his pocket and stabbed Hove in the stomach. Then Simudzirai ran out into the night.

Sadly, Hove passed away from his wounds as soon as he got to Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare.

Simudzirai has been recommended to apply for bail from the High Court and has been placed under detention in custody until May 8, 2024.

In another story, Ashley Ndou, 23, and Prospect Ziyengwa, 27, both of Beitbridge, are accused of trying to assassinate Mr. Takavingei Mahachi, a Ward 3 councillor, on Independence Day by stabbing him at his house in the Tshidixwa district.

They allegedly attacked Mr. Takavingei Mahachi, leaving significant slashes on his left arm and chest, and then fled the scene with the help of a third man who is still at large…read in full
