Police at the Plumtree Border Post have successfully dismantled a major smuggling operation, seizing three South African-registered vehicles loaded with contraband worth over R600,000.
The authorities arrested three individuals involved in the operation: Mcedisi Ndlovu, Bhekithemba Nyoni, and Tazoona Muza.
Chief Superintendent Cabinet Thomas, responsible for policing in the Bulilima and Mangwe districts, confirmed that the arrests took place between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. when an anti-smuggling team intercepted the vehicles along the Bulawayo-Plumtree Road.
The seized vehicles, which included two Toyota Hilux trucks and a Mercedes Benz Sprinter, were found carrying various smuggled goods, including building materials and groceries.

Investigations indicated that some vehicles had entered Zimbabwe through an unofficial crossing, while another had used an official border post but failed to declare its cargo.
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) has been called in to evaluate the contraband, and the suspects are expected to face court proceedings soon.
Chief Supt Thomas reiterated the commitment to combating smuggling and urged the public to follow proper importation procedures to avoid legal consequences. Plumtree Border Post
