Potraz Confirms Zimbabweans Are Obsessed With Betting and Watching 'TOO MUCH' Inappropriate Content

The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has raised concerns over the high levels of sports betting and inappropriate content consumption among Zimbabweans.

According to Potraz, statistics reveal that sports betting sites, adult entertainment platforms, and related content are among the top ten most visited websites in the country.

Evidence Mazhindu, Deputy Director of Potraz’s CIRT and Enforcement, attributes this trend largely to idleness. He emphasizes the need for increased investment in ICT research initiatives to address this issue.

Mazhindu shared these insights during an interview with ZiFM Stereo News in Gweru, Midlands province, at a Sensitisation and Awareness Workshop on the Cyber and Data Protection Act.

He highlighted the importance of addressing the underlying causes of this behavior, suggesting that productive engagement and ICT development could help mitigate the problem.

“We need to focus on creating opportunities and investing in ICT research initiatives to keep people engaged in more constructive activities,” Mazhindu stated.

The workshop aimed to educate and raise awareness about the Cyber and Data Protection Act, underscoring the importance of responsible internet usage and the need for regulatory measures to protect users from harmful online content.

Potraz’s findings call for immediate attention and action to steer Zimbabweans towards more beneficial and productive use of the internet.
