Robert Chatogo Nyemudzo, the ZANU PF candidate for Chipinge South in the August 2023 elections, has had his suspension lifted by the party after being initially disqualified due to allegations of brewing illicit beer at his Checheche homestead.
Nyemudzo’s reinstatement comes after he defeated Enock Porusingazi in the ZANU PF primary elections but was subsequently disqualified following accusations of involvement in illegal brewing activities.
Although Porusingazi lost the seat to Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate Clifford Hlatywayo, this outcome reportedly incensed ZANU PF leadership in Manicaland, particularly considering the constituency had been under their party’s control for years.

A letter obtained by NewsDay announced Nyemudzo’s readmission to ZANU PF, stating that the decision was upheld by the national disciplinary committee during the politburo’s ordinary session on February 29, 2024. The letter, signed by ZANU PF secretary-general Obert Mpofu, indicated that all charges against Nyemudzo had been dropped as per the party’s constitution.
Robert Chatogo Nyemudzo, in response to his reinstatement, emphasized the importance of unity among party supporters, stating, “What happened is now history.” He expressed gratitude to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his support in rejoining the party and stressed the need for unity and development within the constituency.
As Nyemudzo resumes his duties within ZANU PF, the focus shifts towards fostering cohesion and progress within the party and the constituency, leaving behind the controversies of the past.
