Danny Jordaan, the president of the South African Football Association (Safa), was arrested on Wednesday, according to statements from Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale.
Mogale reported that arrest warrants had been issued that morning for Jordaan, Safa CEO Gronie Hluyo, and a businessman in his forties.
The charges stem from accusations that, between 2014 and 2018, Jordaan allegedly misused Safa’s resources for personal benefit, including hiring a private security firm for his own protection and engaging a public relations firm, both reportedly without Safa board approval.
The investigation, led by the serious commercial crime division, conducted searches at Safa’s offices on March 8, seizing electronic devices and documents that contributed to the arrests.

Jordaan is scheduled to make a court appearance soon at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, confirmed National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.
On Tuesday, Jordaan had filed a petition with the Johannesburg High Court in an attempt to prevent his arrest and prosecution, with a hearing set for Thursday.
