South African authorities, including the police and the South African Revenue Service (SARS), have raided the residence of Durban businesswoman and socialite Shauwn Mpisane. The operation began just before noon on Tuesday at her multi-million rand mansion in La Lucia, Durban.
Details surrounding the raid remain unclear, and law enforcement officials have yet to provide further information. Mpisane’s lavish home is currently under close surveillance by police.
This follows a history of legal issues for Mpisane, who was previously arrested in 2013 on charges of corruption and fraud. She was accused of securing over R140 million in government tenders by submitting fraudulent information to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). However, the charges were later dropped by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in 2014.
Mpisane, who was briefly released on bail at the time, expressed satisfaction with the NPA’s decision to withdraw the charges. In addition, the businesswoman and her husband, Sbu, recently finalized their divorce.
The situation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet confirmed the specific reason for the current raid.
